Drift Rejection Differential Frontend for Single Plate Capacitive Sensors

Capacitive sensing at long ranges (10x the plate diameter) for long-term environmental monitoring can be limited by slow but significant measurement drifts from charge induction, which exceed small capacitance variations of interest, below 0.01%. This paper proposes a slope modulation differential method single-plate capacitive sensors operating in loading mode that effectively rejects noise quasi-constant drift currents. It is based on periodical charge-discharge, like period frontends (astable multivibrators) were used past work, it uses constant oscillation and compares slopes adjacent voltage ramps. Plate calculated averaging magnitudes, The sensitivity rejection are compared with techniques analytically, results validated using simulations experiments. They show human body range doubles floor substantially lower to state-of-the-art (period modulation).
